Over 125 years ago, downtown Nanaimo had many small wooden saloons with long counters, foot rails, mirror back splashes, and spittoons on the floor. Six of these saloons still exist, and two, owned by gold-miners, were demolished in 1916 to make way for the brick building that stands today. Up until 4 years ago, still had two separate entrances for males and for females!
